Domestic Violence Awareness Prayers

October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month in the United States, so I offer this post as my small part in raising awareness…

The National Domestic Violence Hotline is 1-800-799-7233 and on their website they say the following:

“Domestic violence (also called intimate partner violence, domestic abuse, or relationship abuse) is a pattern of behaviors used by one partner to maintain power and control over another partner in an intimate relationship. It can happen to anyone at any point in a relationship. Domestic violence includes behaviors that physically harm, cause fear, prevent a partner from doing what they wish, or force them to behave in ways they do not want. This October… we are bringing awareness to domestic violence through the #1Thing campaign and celebrating DVAM.”

I pray that domestic violence will end, and I offer these prayers for those who are suffering in that abusive realm ~

~ For the victims of abuse who are living scared, may they have strength, and may they leave if it is safe to do so, and then may they be comforted in their grief and healing.

~ For the abusers who are causing so much harm, may they heal their own wounds, and may they become better people on the planet.

May October be a month of healing and peace for all human beings. This being human is very challenging, but together we can all rise above the wounds and create harmony for all beings.

May All Beings Be Free of Suffering.
May All Beings Be Happy.

3 Tips for the Lonely

Do you ever feel totally alone in this world, like no one understands and appreciates you? When you feel lonely, what do you do?

Typically, when people feel lonely they reach outside of themselves for comfort, through food and drinks, television, social media, and so on. Those external pleasures can be soothing temporarily, but a more lasting comfort can be achieved through internal practices.

The next time you feel utterly alone in this world, try these 3 tips for reaching inside your own being ~

~ Cultivating self-love with the mirror. Gaze into your own eyes in the mirror, and say out loud, “I love you (your name)” several times in a row, and then say, “I understand you (your name), and I appreciate you (your name).”

~ Focusing on your strengths. Take out pen and paper and write down everything you love about yourself. If you cannot think of at least 5 things, then write some intentions for new qualities you would like to call into your being. For example, if you do not feel like you are a very kind person, but you would like to be a kinder person, then set an intention to call the vibration of loving kindness into yourself. Place little pieces of paper with the written words “loving kindness” around your home and car.

~ Doing something that you really truly love doing. Make sure this is something you really want to do, and not something that you feel you should do. This could be turning on your favorite music and singing and dancing, or going outside barefoot to hug a tree, or making a cup of spicy tea to sip while reading an inspiring book… While doing this thing that you really love, tune in deeply to how you feel inside on every level. Focus on loving yourself totally, in every way.

StarFire Teja’s StarFire Friday Blessing: May You Be Willing to Do the Work When the Work Shows Up

May you face difficult emotions with courage.

May you remember that emotions are just energies passing through.

May your weekend be blessed with authenticity and bravery and comfort.

May you be willing to do the work when the work shows up.*

Dear reader,

When difficult emotions arise, do you tend to run away from them and fill yourself with distractions? Or do you stop everything and tend to them?

In my experience, when difficult emotions arise, if I try to push through and carry on with my plans, I find that I cannot enjoy myself… So I think it is better to just stop and tend to the emotions first. That is called doing the work when the work shows up.

The thing is, our natural human tendency is to push away pain and seek pleasure. But, the things that really bother us are points of inquiry. Our triggers are actually very juicy and when we lean into them fully, by asking why and how questions, then they often will bear very sweet fruits!

So, my dear reader, my blessings for you this weekend are to face your juicy triggers. If you tend to run away from difficult emotions, make it a new practice to stop and tend to them. Surrender to the energies passing through you. If something is upsetting you, ask why and how, and then listen deep within for the answers.

If you currently do not have any difficult emotions passing through, thank your happy stars and enjoy your weekend plans!

This weekend my plan is to work on the final stages of publishing my new book, Reaching for Orange: Practices, Visualizations, & Blessings to Help You Happy Up Your Life… Well, that is my “plan” but since there have already been a few delays to publishing this book, I just have to trust that it will happen in “right timing” which I sure hope will be this weekend! 🙂

See you all back here on Monday…

With lots of love,
Teja

Does Coffee Give You Bear Power?

I joke that Coffee is my spirit animal, but actually I think it might be Bear. Do you drink coffee? Did you see my blog article in January about the health benefits of coffee? (“Coffee is Good Medicine”)

And do you love bears? Recently I discovered a fun Facebook page called Bears Make Me Happy, so now I can enjoy seeing photos of bears in my feed, while drinking my hot black Organic, Fair Trade, dark roast coffee!

In their book, Medicine Cards: The Discovery of Power Through the Ways of Animals, authors Jamie Sams and David Carson write, “The strength of Bear medicine is the power of introspection.” They say that the special energy of Bear has to do with their hibernation in wintertime. Just like Bear, I feel as though I’ve been going deep inside my cave this winter. How about you?

Here’s a short little Bear visualization to bring comfort… imagining you are curled up in a cave with a Mama Bear and her cubs… you feel peaceful and completely at ease… and so do they… the Mama Bear pulls you close and cuddles you, just like one of her own cubs… you feel so much love… you melt in that love… and you send some of that Big Bear Love out to all beings…

May All Beings Feel Loved
May All Beings Be Happy!
