Dalai Lama Calls for Tackling Difficult Emotions

In his birthday message last week His Holiness the Dalai Lama said, “Much of the turmoil we witness across the world occurs because people are overwhelmed by disturbing emotions that can be difficult to tackle. I believe that the rich understanding of the workings of the mind and emotions that we find in ancient Indian traditions remains relevant today. There would be great value in examining and applying this as a basic human discipline, and not from a religious point of view. Just as we teach physical hygiene to stay physically fit, we need to cultivate emotional hygiene, learning to tackle our destructive emotions, so as to better achieve peace of mind.”

The Dalai Lama also expressed that he would be grateful if we would like to help him in sharing these ideas with others. For me, as a spiritual helper, his words resonated deeply, because I feel like I am already doing the work that he calls for… I am very inspired to help others in tackling their disturbing emotions.

Do you struggle with difficult emotions? If so, I hope my blog posts are helpful to you… And, I am really looking forward to sharing my new book with you, because it is really in alignment with the Dalai Lama’s call for us to tackle those destructive emotions.

Recently I made a list of 23 possible benefits you may gain through reading my new book, Reaching for Orange: Practices, Visualizations, & Blessings to Help You Happy Up Your Life… I will share that full list with you soon, but here are a few benefits that are related to the Dalai Lama’s request… When you read Reaching for Orange, you will learn tools to help you ~

The Power of Intention is StarFire Awesome!

In a recent blog, “Guided Imagery Exercise for Difficult Emotions” I shared that I am carrying a deep grief in my heart. Well, the last week of February I got slammed with a grief wave that affected me on every level. I felt miserable, with back pain, neck pain, exhaustion, headaches, upset stomach, extra sensitivity (even more than my usual HSP-ness!), dizziness, depression, irritability, and anxiety. I cried often and I felt quite a bit of despair, fearing that I will never recover from the grief.

Have you ever felt that miserable?

So then on March 1st, I was feeling a tad better and I gathered my wits and set some intentions. I posted my “keywords for March” on Facebook: Acceptance, Forgiveness, Peace, & Grace… And then… something amazing happened. The very next day I felt those keywords actualizing in my being. I truly felt Acceptance, Forgiveness, Peace, & Grace… I felt so much more clear about everything, and I felt at peace with my whole past. I said out loud, “I accept and bless everything that has happened in my life.”

Gratitude was ringing in every cell. It was as if I had passed through a dark portal, like a brutal shamanic journey through excruciating pain, and popped out the other side into the radiant orange light!

Wow, I am telling you, if you don’t already know (and reminding you if you do know), that the power of intention is StarFire Awesome! The next time you’re going through a dark portal, remember to set some positive keywords (and share them with others to give them even more power), and then be amazed by the results! Holy Coconut Shells, it is so awesome to feel at peace with your past. I wish this for you also.

And, we are human and ever-changing. Our emotions rise and fall like ocean waves, which means that I may still have more work to do on Acceptance and Forgiveness. But for now I’m enjoying this state of Peace & Grace… And I’m feeling hopeful, willing, and curious for what is next…

How are you feeling today?

Staying Well With Guided Imagery

“Working its magic deep inside your body… moving with deliberate intelligence to the hidden places where pain and disappointment are stored… right to the center of the heaviness… and feeling the spaces loosen and lighten as you breathe into them… sensing the beginnings of energy awakening… old sparks returning…”

That passage appears in “Depression Imagery” in an excellent book called Staying Well With Guided Imagery: How to Harness the Power of Your Imagination for Health and Healing* by Belleruth Naparstek. Later in that section she writes, “attuned once more to the brightness of your own being…”

In addition to the imagery for relieving depression, in this book you will find guided imagery to help with anxiety, insomnia, fatigue, grief, physical pain, high blood pressure, immune system disorders, headaches, allergies (whether they appear in the respiratory system, the digestive tract, or the skin), emotional issues, spiritual and energetic support, and more.

In only 216 pages you will become your own expert on how to gently heal yourself using guided imagery, which the author explains as “any perception that comes through any of the senses. That means sights, sounds, smells, tastes, and feel.” She also highlights that in order for your guided imagery to be most effective, first you need to access an altered state in which you are both relaxed and focused, and then feel the images as sensations in your body in a multi-sensory way.

One of my favorite parts in this book is when Belleruth explains how any images in the mind, including memories, are real events to the body. She describes this through the beautiful example of remembering being on Gramma’s lap: “As far as your body is concerned, regardless of intervening years, age, or pounds, while you’re remembering all that rich, sensory detail, you’re still on Gramma’s lap. And whatever profound emotional nourishment you got there is yours to have again. Whatever neurohormones, or chemical messengers, went coursing through your bloodstream as you sat on Gramma’s lap, sending happy-to-be-alive white blood cells all through your body, these same substances get activated again. As far as your body is concerned, Gramma is forever available to love and sustain you. And so with any sweet memories…”

I hope you will enjoy this book as much as I do! After reading it, please come back here and share your experiences in the comments below, down where it says “Leave a Reply.”

StarFire Teja’s Three Tips to Help You Gratitude Up

Do you practice gratitude? Did you know that gratitude is good for the immune system?

Are you feeling more hungry and more tired than usual? Perhaps the winter cold and dark is getting you down? If so, you can improve your mood and help your immune system through these tips to Gratitude Up:

1. Make gratitude lists on colorful pieces of paper. Write down every little thing you can think of. These can be big things like mountains and sunsets or very small things like cups of coffee and glowing candles. These things can include people, places, objects, and also unseen spiritual forces, like God or love of nature. Place these colorful lists where you will see them often, such as in your kitchen, bathroom, and car.

2. Pick a color and intend that every time you see that color you will think to yourself, “Gratitude Up” and then quickly think of at least three things you feel grateful for. For example, let’s say you picked the color red. As you go about your day, when you see a stop sign or some red flowers, think “Gratitude Up” and feel gratitude for at least three things.

3. In bed each night, remember at least three things from that day that you feel grateful for, and then pick a color and imagine those three things glowing in that color. If you are feeling some depression, imagining those items glowing in a bright golden yellow shade, like sunlight, can help you to happy up.

You may have noticed a theme here with the use of colors in these tips. That is because colors bring joy. Check out this uplifting and inspiring video about the joy of colors here: “How to Fill Your Life with Joy” with Ingrid Fetell Lee. (This is an excerpt from her longer TED Talk, “Where Joy Hides and How to Find It”)

I hope these tips help you to spark more joy in your life.
May you Gratitude Up and Happy Up!
