“Let us be grateful to the people who make us happy; they are the charming gardeners who make our souls blossom.”
~ Marcel Proust
Some people say that no one else can “make” us happy, because true, sustained happiness comes from within. While I understand that is true at the deepest level, most of us are not living our lives at the deepest level all the time, and so we do find some of our happiness with other people.
Other people cannot make us happy all the time, so it is important to have a good balance between relationships with others and with our own selves. If you need to take a deeper dive into nourishing your connection with your happy place inside your own being, now is the time for you to order my new book, Reaching for Orange: Practices, Visualizations, & Blessings to Help You Happy Up Your Life.
Expressing gratitude is a wonderful way to nurture your relationships with others. Who are the charming gardeners in your life? Are you grateful for the happiness they bring you? Do you thank them for helping your soul blossom?

On January 11th I posted my favorite blog article ever (“Into the Fire”) in which I celebrated that I no longer have the desire for prince charming, and I am finding happiness inside my own being. Well, thankfully the desire for prince charming has not returned… but, as per human nature, other desires have grown in its place…
So, on March 11th as I sat in meditation nurturing one of those desires, I remembered the opening song of Into the Woods, in which the characters sing “I wish…” and I spontaneously took myself on a guided imagery voyage. In my mind I took my wish into the woods, where I said it to the trees… and then I took that wish out into the universes, where I said it to the stars… and then I took that wish out to the ocean, where I said it to the waves… and then I took that wish to Sedona, where I whispered it to the holy red rocks… and then I took that wish out into Space, where I shared it with the blue space beings of the Highest Love… and as I spoke my wish to each, all the while tears were just streaming down my cheeks…
The tears were a mixture of the depth of desire I was feeling for that wish, along with the sorrow of the desire not being fulfilled… Can you relate to this? Do you have any wishes that you fear will never come true? If you answered yes to these questions, then the solution for you, as well as for me, is to remember that true happiness is inside of us. When we attune with our inner selves it becomes easy to throw all the desires into the Fire of Love that is ever burning inside us.
