The Last Book

In my post on January 19th (“Maintaining a Balance”) I shared that I was going to take a few days off from blogging in order to re-read the books I published last year… Well, that same day my Dad went into the hospital, and later that week he had double bypass heart surgery which he did not recover from, and he died on January 25th.

During the week that my Dad was in the hospital, I had already finished re-reading my book, Reaching for Orange: Practices, Visualizations, & Blessings to Help You Happy Up Your Life, so I was re-reading my book, The Tejaswini Ramayana: The Way of Rama in the Shakahara StarFire Universes.

The week prior to that, I had written the following in my journal: “It appears that once again I have failed, because my books haven’t sold and the blog hasn’t gotten a big following… It appears as failure on the outside, but on the inside it feels like success because I really LOVE both books so much, and I really LOVE the blog so much! ~ When I re-read the two books and the 270+ blog posts, I feel so pleased and so proud of my work… My work isn’t successful externally/financially for many possible reasons: my health issues; my inability to effectively promote (“Realizing (Again) That I Am Not a Salesperson!”); karma; destiny; fate; astrology; and/or I am too fringe and/or too spiritual for this worldly realm… “It’s Whatever.” ~ My work is very successful and satisfying internally! Om Namah Shivaya, Jai Sri Rama!”

So, while my Dad was in the hospital, I once again really loved reading The Tejaswini Ramayana, and I visualized many people being elevated by watching it as a major film like Avatar

Then my Dad died… and the day after he died, my Mom told me that he had taken my book, The Tejaswini Ramayana: The Way of Rama in the Shakahara StarFire Universes, with him to the hospital… So, he and I were both reading The Tejaswini Ramayana during the last week of his life, but neither one of us knew that the other was reading the same book at the same time!

It was actually my Dad’s third time to read The Tejaswini Ramayana, because first he proofread the original copy prior to publication, then secondly he read the published book in order to write a review… Well, after he spent many hours writing a review on Amazon, it wouldn’t save and he lost all that he had written… And then the months of busy living flew by…

So, my Mom said that in December he was planning to read it for the third time in order to surprise me with a written review for Christmas… But he didn’t get around to doing it, so he was planning to write the surprise review for my 50th Birthday, which was on January 29th… So that’s why he had taken the book with him to the hospital on January 19th… And he finished reading the book that week, but he didn’t have time to start writing the review…

So! After a lifetime of being an avid reader and researcher, the last book my Dad read on this Earth was my book, The Tejaswini Ramayana. I am so stunned by that, and tears are blurring my eyes as I type this post…

As he read the book, he told my Mom, “She is a good writer,” and he made comments about what was happening in the fantastical story, such as “The blue beings are coming!” My Mom said he really enjoyed reading it, and I can tell the truth of that by reading his marked-up copy…

Last week I really loved reading his copy and seeing what he had underlined. I especially appreciated seeing all the comments and smiley faces and other doodles he had made in the margins! What a blessing, what a gift, for me to have his copy of my book!

The Tejaswini Ramayana is based on the ancient epic story from India, which I had been studying for nearly fifteen years… My version is quite fantastical, and my Dad was more of a realist, so a lot of his written comments questioned my “fantasy-based philosophy”… While reading his marked-up copy I enjoyed talking to my Dad and explaining my cosmic beliefs to him! It was the only spiritual connection I have felt with him in these long three weeks since he died… I am so very grateful for that little spark of magic during this difficult time.

I am pretty sure that Reaching for Orange is the last book I will publish… I am not sure what the future holds for me, but for now I still feel that my purpose is to be a happy spiritual helper shining the light through writing blog posts…

Thank you so much for reading this post.

May you be blessed in every way, every day.

I love you all,
StarFire Teja

Monday Morning Musings on Money

Some people say that all anxieties and fears arise from the fear of death. Do you agree? I’m not so sure I agree.

My first musing has to do with tracing anxieties and fears to their root causes. Do you ever do that? When I follow mine, they do not seem to arise from fear of death, but rather from fear of poverty… And a step up from that fear is the fear of sickness that can lead to poverty.

When I am feeling miserable due to chronic health issues caused by Fibromyalgia, I do not feel afraid of death at all… But what I do feel is extreme anxiety about not being able to work, and fear of the physical discomforts associated with poverty.

My second musing is what it feels like to actually have money. Do you have lots of money now? Do you appreciate it and enjoy it?

Throughout my adult life, several times I have had the good fortune to experience having money. I appreciated it so much each time, and I loved being able to buy whatever I needed at any time… But what I enjoyed more than being able to buy myself things was being able to give generously to others. I loved buying someone a plane ticket or sending them a special gift package. Can you relate to this? Do you enjoy giving generously to others?

My third money musing is about why some people have lots of money and others don’t… The speculations here are endless, but a few ideas come to mind: fate, karma, destiny, magic, astrology, luck, charm, skill, mojo, family inheritance or genes, law of attraction, and so on. What do you think? Why do you think there are billionaires on this planet, while there are poor people living in shacks with dirt floors? What is really going on here?

My fourth musing is a heart-warming story I heard years ago about a wealthy man who enjoyed walking down the city streets giving out one hundred dollar bills. He loved to see the surprised and joyous expressions on people’s faces!

Remembering that story led me to have this fantasy: Perhaps some wealthy person will find my blog and feel inspired to purchase one thousand dollars worth of copies of my book on Lulu, Reaching for Orange: Practices, Visualizations, & Blessings to Help You Happy Up Your Life, and then they will go out on the streets giving them out! Spreading the Love! 🙂

My fifth and final musing for this morning is based on the title of a children’s book called “Are You My Mother?” Some years back, when my financial difficulties began, I got this idea that it would be so wonderful if we could somehow match up wealthy people with visionary mystics… I jokingly called out “Are You My Millionaire?” Then I posted this question:

Are you a millionaire looking for a mystic to sponsor?

Keeping a sense of humor is key when you are feeling any anxieties or fears!

Dear reader, I hope you enjoyed this post.

May All Beings Be Free of Poverty and Suffering.
May All Beings Be Happy!

Transformation Is Always Possible

What does the word “magic” mean to you?

One of my keywords for this month of November was Magic, and in my post “Monday Morning Musings from a Living Starbird” I wrote that I was really needing to experience some magic in my life again… What I meant by “magic” was something out of the ordinary that sparks an unusual quality of joy and fascination.

Well, many wonderful things happened this month, such as my younger son Gabe visiting us, and there was a lot to be grateful for… And yet, I still hadn’t experienced anything that felt like magic to me… until a few days ago… I was sitting at my altar singing the daily prayers, and I began crying over a deep grief in my heart… I prayed for help with the sorrow, and right then I looked down at the book I had just finished reading, Fear: Essential Wisdom for Getting Through the Storm by Zen Buddhist Master Thich Nhat Hanh, and I felt inspired to ask for guidance through the book.

Do you ever use books as tools for guidance? It is a very simple practice that you can do with any book. Just ask a question, then open to a page and let your eyes naturally fall somewhere on the page. Read that section and contemplate how it might contain some wisdom that relates to your question.

So, when I picked up the book, I asked for guidance with the grief that I fear will never heal… And I opened to this section:

“Sorrow, fear, and depression are like a kind of garbage. But these bits of garbage are part of real life, and we must look deeply into their nature. We can practice so as to turn these bits of garbage into flowers. We should not throw anything out. All we have to do is learn the art of composting, of transforming our garbage into flowers. In the practice of Buddhism, we see that all mental formations — including compassion, love, fear, sorrow, and despair — are organic in nature. We don’t need to be afraid of any of them, because transformation is always possible. With just a smile and mindful breathing, we can start to transform them.”

Finally a bit of magic!

Dear reader, I was so amazed when I read that paragraph! Can you even believe how perfect it was? I was especially fascinated by “transformation is always possible,” because my question was essentially about whether or not the grief could ever heal… In total awe, I said aloud, “Thank you, my Deepest Self, for leading me to seek that guidance.”

Can you feel the magic in this story?

With gratitude and a joyful mind,
Sister Teja

Monday Morning Musings from a Living Starbird

Dear readers,

Greetings from the bird’s nest in my tree-house temple, where the black coffee is hot and the morning light is golden…

My first musing is about the fun I have with words. I selected “StarFire” as my blog name because it represents some of my favorite elements, such as the stars, the sun, fire, and source energies. Since choosing that name, I have noticed that I also love other words that begin with “star” like starflower and starfish… And recently I came across the word “starbird” and fell instantly in love with it! Can you relate to being so amused by words?

According to the Urban Dictionary’s top definition, a Starbird is “A guardian of love and hope that takes the form of a bird at sunrise and a star at dusk. It shines on all who believe in the spirit of those that passed before us who are watching over us.” Some examples given:

“I feel the warmth of my Starbird watching over me.”

“It’s like my Starbird is right on my shoulders.”

“I lost my Uncle, but I gained a Starbird.”

Isn’t that so wonderful? Have you heard of a Starbird before this moment? I love that meaning, and for my own word-playing purposes, I’ve altered it so that I can be a living Starbird, one who shines love and hope on all beings. As a spiritual helper I do feel that that is part of my role.

This Starbird’s mission is to help elevate humanity to healthier and happier vibrations, and in order to do that I need to generate the energies of love and hope, and to shine the visionary light out into all directions and dimensions! So, as you are reading these words, I pray you feel elevated and inspired…

My second musing is about my review of October. As I sat reading through my journal and calendar for the past month, I felt so happy to be done with that month! October was my third month of feeling rather sick, and at this point I am not sure if I am stuck in a Fibromyaliga flare-up, or if this is my new normal… Either way, I am seriously ready to have some good days again! I wrapped up last month with this affirmation: “I am learning how to manage things better.” Can you relate?

My final musing for today is about the keywords that I have selected as my guiding lights for November. After reviewing October, I sat down in meditation, and the following four intentions arose ~

~ Acceptance ~ As I wrote in a previous post (“StarFire Friday Blessing: May You Accept Things As They Are”), I am working on “Accepting Things As They Are = ATATA!” ~ Well, it is very hard to accept chronic illness, but I know that acceptance brings peace and happiness, so I am continually reminding myself of this intention. Sometimes I say out loud, “Atata, Atata, Atata! I am accepting things as they are!”

~ Gratitude ~ Cultivating the gratitude vibration generates the energy of Love!

~ Ease ~ I am feeling a tad wearied, after 10.5 years of hardships, so now I am really calling in some easeships!

~ Magic ~ I am really needing to experience some magic in my life again…

Can you relate to these keywords? Are you accepting your life circumstances? Do you feel grateful each day? When was the last time you experienced the feeling of ease? Are you experiencing magic in your life now?

What are your keywords for November?

I hope you enjoyed this post…

May your week be blessed with bright shining light!

With much love,
Your Starbird

Guided Imagery to Help Children (of All Ages) Fall Asleep

Do you know anyone who has difficulty falling asleep? I wrote the following visualization to help children fall asleep more easily, but it could also be a fun way for adults to calm down…

Instructions: Whether you are reading this to a child or to yourself, read it out loud in a very soft, soothing tone of voice. Feel free to change any of the words, as you like… I hope this helps you and/or your children. Please let me know how it goes…

Guided Imagery to Help Children (of All Ages) Fall Asleep

Lying down in your bed now… thinking of how fun the day was… you had such a fun day, being alive and feeling so excited for everything… and as you remember the fun day, kick your feet a little… and now kick your legs and your feet… lying in your bed, kicking your legs and feet as if you were swimming in a pool… good… and now stop kicking your legs and feet… and maybe your legs and feet are tingling a little… and now shake your arms and hands… lying in your bed, shaking your arms and hands as if you were dancing at a birthday party… good… and now stop shaking your arms and hands… and maybe your arms and hands are tingling a little… and now blink your eyes open and closed… open your eyes, and close your eyes… open your eyes, and close your eyes… good… and now, after such a fun day, you get to settle in for your special magic time…

… all day you were too busy to feel the magic happening inside your body, but now that you have to lie down in bed for a while, you have time for a different kind of fun… during the day you had fun in the outer world, with all the people and toys and adventures… and now, at bedtime, you get to have fun in the inner world… you get to feel the magic happening inside your body… and so now just let your eyes close… so you can enjoy the magic show inside…

… so now let’s start with your head… imagine there is a beautiful white light just above the top of your head… and inside that white light, there are millions or maybe even billions of tiny butterflies… orange butterflies… blue butterflies… they are so colorful, and some of them even have shimmering glitter on their tiny wings… see them flying around in the white light just above the top of your head… maybe you can feel the top of your head beginning to tingle as the butterflies zoom around…

… and now imagine that inside your head, right inside your forehead, there is a pinecone… and this isn’t a usual pinecone… it’s bright purple and it’s shining like the lights on a Christmas tree… and sitting on top of this bright purple pinecone inside your head, is a little tiny bird… and it’s singing a goodnight song… it’s singing goodnight to you, isn’t that so funny… it’s your special little goodnight bird, sitting on top of the purple pinecone inside your head… it’s singing goodnight songs to you, but it isn’t quite time to fall asleep just yet… there’s still some more fun to have in this magic show inside your body…

… so now imagine that there is a small blue ocean inside your throat… little tiny waves are rising and falling in your throat… and little tiny sparkling blue mermaids are playing and splashing in the waves… and they are also singing goodnight songs just for you…

… and now imagine that inside your heart, in the center of your chest, there is a field of green grass… with lots of sweet little pink flowers… the flowers smell so good… and there are so many bunny rabbits hopping around and playing in the green grass and pink flowers… such cute little bunnies… so much love…

… and now imagine that inside your belly, above your belly button, there is a little pond and the warm sun is shining on the pond… you can see the reflection of the sun on the surface of the pond… and on the rocks there are so many frogs… and all the frogs are singing goodnight songs just for you… and further down your belly, under your belly button, the sun is setting, and the sky is orange… and there are orange fish in the pond… watching the fish swim around… and around… feeling sleepier and sleepier…

… and now imagine that at the very bottom of your back, there is a garden and it’s nighttime in the garden… the sun has set and the stars are twinkling in the sky… and you can see the moonlight shining on the red roses… so many red roses… they smell so good… and all around in the garden, there are kittens… and the kittens are all curled up in little blankets, sleeping peacefully… seeing the kittens sleeping, and feeling sleepier and sleepier…

… and as you are feeling sleepier and sleepier, noticing that the tingling in your arms and hands and fingers has slowed down… and your arms feel very warm and very heavy… and now your hands and fingers also feel very warm and very heavy… and noticing that the tingling in your legs and feet and toes has slowed down… and your legs feel very warm and very heavy… and now your feet and toes also feel very warm and very heavy…

… and this special magic time in your inner world is naturally ending for tonight, but you’ll get to enjoy this magic show again tomorrow night… and the next night… and the next night… and so for now, just letting yourself rest in your bed… sleepier and sleepier… sweet dreams…
