The Bird who watches the bird eating the fruits

“Like two birds of golden plumage, inseparable companions, the individual self and the immortal Self are perched on the branches of the selfsame tree. The former tastes of the sweet and bitter fruits of the tree; the latter, tasting of neither, calmly observes. The individual self, deluded by forgetfulness of his identity with the divine Self, bewildered by his ego, grieves and is sad. But when he recognizes the worshipful Lord as his own true Self, and beholds his glory, he grieves no more.” ~ The Upanishads: Breath of Eternal Life, translated by Swami Prabhavananda and Frederick Manchester.

The ancient sages and mystics of India said the same thing that Jesus said, “The kingdom of God is within.” One way to connect with the Divine inside you is to practice cultivating the Witness.

Cultivating the Witness Consciousness means attuning with the Bird who is watching the bird eating the fruits, which is to say aligning with your deepest self and observing all of your thoughts, words, feelings, and actions. Creating and nurturing this connection, between your deeper witnessing mind and your surface acting mind, can help you to feel more peaceful, loving, and kind towards yourself. The Bird who is watching the bird is like a compassionate friend who is always with you, showing you the truth of how things are with neutrality and wisdom.

Cultivating the Witness is a practice you can do anytime, anywhere by just simply stating the observable facts to yourself. For example, if you are waiting in line at the grocery store, you can witness your thoughts and feelings, and then think to yourself, “Some impatience and irritability are passing through me.” Once you witness what’s happening, then you can work with it skillfully by deciding to focus on gratitude, or to say a prayer, or to send blessings for goodness to all of the other people waiting in line. In this way, your deeper observer self can help your cranky surface self to transmute the frustration into loving kindness. So, cultivating the Witness is a great tool for working with difficult emotions.

In the tree of your life, can you see the Bird who is watching the bird eating the fruits? Do you take time to nourish a loving connection between these two birds?

StarFire Teja’s StarFire Friday Prayer: Keep Feeling Fascination

May you feel in alignment with your Highest Self.

May your Deeper Mind guide you to positive thoughts.

May your weekend be blessed with Elevated moments of Pure Joy.

May you Keep Feeling Fascination!

Do you ever wake up feeling really good and completely rested and happy? Seriously, do you regularly wake up feeling refreshed and gleefully jump out of bed into your day? If you answered yes to those questions, you are very blessed and you may want to forward this blog article on to your many friends who do not wake up feeling so great.

Unfortunately in our busy frenetic modern world, many people are not getting high quality sleep on a regular basis. If you do not get restorative sleep, you’ve likely already read many articles with tips for getting better sleep, and if you are like me, those tips do work on occasion. For me, sleep is an ongoing issue and soon I will post some of my own sleep tips, but today I want to share a fascinating experience I had that might help you.

One recent morning I woke up feeling especially awful. It was one of those mornings when I just wanted to stay in bed all day, but I sat up, and, remembering some self-coaching I had done the night before, I said this prayer out loud, “Dear God, Please keep me in alignment with my Highest Self this whole day, and please keep me elevated to the Highest Love Vibrations this whole day, no matter how bad the body feels. Please keep my mind in a positive elevated state.”

What do you think happened that day? Well, to my delight IT WORKED, proving to me once again the great power of prayer and intention, and also the profound potency of the spoken word. I am incredibly fascinated by the power of our minds. Try this yourself, the next morning that you feel like you just want to stay in bed all day. Sit up on the edge of the bed and speak out loud your intention to have a fabulously elevated day regardless of how your body feels, and then see what happens. Please share your experiences here in the comments below, as they might be helpful to someone.

Here’s a fun upbeat blast-from-the-past song by The Human League to elevate and energize your weekend:
“(Keep Feeling) Fascination” (Lyrics)

I love the high vibe lyrics in that tune: “Keep feeling fascination… Passion burning, Love so strong…”
